The Poultney Fire Department,
Poultney Hose Co #1, is dedicated to the protection of life and property within the town and village of Poultney, Vermont.
P.F.D. is an all volunteer department with over 30 members who all share a common drive and vision to provide the best possible
fire protection to our neighbors. P.F.D. is called upon and responds an average of 150 times per year to a varying degree
of emergencies ranging from structural fires, alarm activations, rescue's and motor vehicle accidents, to wildfires,
hazardous conditions and EMS assists.
The Poultney Fire Department maintains a ISO Class A fire station with 6 pieces
of fire apparatus and operates under both urban and rural interfaces. In order to provide the most effective and professional
service to our community while maintaining the highest safety standards, Poultney firefighters are required to accrue at least
50 hours of training per calendar year and are encouraged to attain IFSTA Firefighter Level I National Certification. Over
85% of our firefighters meet this challenge and continue on to enhance their education and skill sets by attaining higher
levels of certification as well as specialty training in HAZ-MAT, Leadership Development, and emergency medicine through American
Heart Association CPR-AED certification.

The Town of Poultney, encompassing the Village of Poultney, is located in the southwestern Vermont county of Rutland.
Poultney is bordered to the west by the New York State border, and to the north by Fair Haven and Castleton Vermont. Middletown
Springs, Vermont, lies on it's eastern border with Wells, Vermont, to it's south. The Town of Poultney is approximately 45
square miles with 1 square mile inclusive making the Village of Poultney. Poultney is home to Green Mountain College and the
Lake Saint Catherine State Park.
